Your Product Image Looks Great on Screen. Is It Ready for a Retail Display?

An image can look great on screen. But will it hold up on a retail lightbox?

For brand marketers, retail teams and creative agencies, that question can come after the visual has already been approved. You have the product image you want. Now you need it to work in a shop window, on a poster or across a larger display.

Clarity AI by GatherStar combines AI-assisted image upscaling with expert manual retouching to help prepare existing visuals for print and digital applications. The work starts with your source image and what you need it to do. Clarity AI

Why an image may need more work at a larger size

A screen preview does not tell the whole story. At a larger size, softness, rough edges or unclear product details may become easier to notice.

There is also a practical relationship between pixel count and print size. Spread the same pixels across a larger area, and the pixel density decreases. Adobe distinguishes image dimensions, resolution and resampling in its Image Size documentation.

However, there is no single resolution requirement for every display. Adobe’s print-resolution guidance explains that prints viewed closely and large-format images viewed from farther away can have different needs.

The useful question is therefore specific: what does this image need for this particular display?

What Clarity AI does

Our image upscaling and retouching service brings together image enlargement, fine-detail work and output preparation.

AI-assisted upscaling forms part of the workflow. Hands-on retouching addresses agreed areas, which may include lettering, product edges and material textures. Original assets and product references help the team check those details. Where essential information is unclear, additional references may be needed.

For a product visual, a sharper-looking detail still needs to match the product. A watch marker, a bottle label or a line of stitching is part of what customers see.

A watch image prepared for a retail lightbox

One completed project featured on the Clarity AI website began with a 10,000 × 10,000-pixel watch image and was delivered at 20,000 × 20,000 pixels.

The project specified 300 PPI for a retail lightbox viewed from approximately one meter away. Manual retouching after upscaling focused on the dial, metal edges and material textures.

These specifications describe that project. The appropriate enlargement and retouching scope for another image depend on its source and intended use.

When to consider an image assessment

Clarity AI may be relevant when you already have approved imagery and need to explore whether it can support a larger output. For example, a retail team might need a campaign image for a lightbox, or an agency might receive a print specification that the available file does not meet.

Before choosing an approach, establish the final dimensions, intended crop and supplier requirements. Our guide to image resolution for large-format printing explains how those decisions fit together.

Start with the image you have

Share a preview, where the image will appear, your target size and preferred deadline. If you have a supplier specification, include it.

The team reviews the assets before agreeing on scope, pricing, deliverables and revision rounds. Final formats and color profiles are discussed for the project; printing costs are separate.
